The Central Electricity Board has launched a national awareness campaign on electrical safety. The main objective is to make individuals aware of the real state of their electrical installation and the risks it may represent due to aging.
According to statistics from the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service, from January to September of this year, about 305 houses were destroyed by an accidental fire, due to a dilapidated installation. Several homes are still not equipped with a Residual Current Device, a mandatory device that protects appliances in real time against overloads and other electrical failures.
