World Tsunami Prevention Day

Today is World Tsunami Prevention Day. In Mauritius, since 2015, a Tsunami Emergency Scheme has been set up to take all the necessary precautions to cope with a Tsunami. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center points out that once the danger of a tsunami is noted, the first waves will take at least 7 hours to strike the Mauritian coast.

Control over firearms in the country

Gun owners in Mauritius and Rodrigues will have to renew their licenses between November 05 and December 31, 2018. They will have to report to the Police Divisional Headquarters in their area with their firearms, ammunition and licenses. This exercise also aims to have control over firearms in the country. The personal weapons license is subject to several conditions such as a clean criminal record.
