A campaign to further sensitise the population on safety measures at sea and on the importance of keeping the beaches clean as well refraining to litter on the beaches was launched on 27 December 2018 at Belle Mare.

This campaign is an initiative of the Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Environment and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Beach Authority, the Living Environment Unit, the Solid Waste Management Unit and the National Coast Guard to protect the citizens and ensuring their safety at the beaches during the festive season and also to reinforce the practice of cleanliness.

The campaign consists of three key elements namely: cleaning of beaches; the importance of preventing littering on beaches; and ensuring safety at sea. It also intend to send a strong signal to the population to be more responsible with regards to maintaining cleanliness at the beaches across the island. All these measures and strategies would be in vain if citizens do not change their mindset and fail to recognise their responsibility to tackle environmental problems.

 

This Government’s commitment is in line with its Vision 2030 and Government Programme 2015-2019.  The empowerment of vulnerable families remains at the centre of development.  The FCHS has been set up with the aim of ensuring the social integration of vulnerable groups into mainstream society to enable their socioeconomic empowerment.

The provision of decent housing is indeed a major step in the fight against poverty as it lays the foundation for the social progress and enhancement of the life chances of poor families as well as widen the circle of opportunities for the whole family.  The relentless support of the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF), to help advance Government’s anti-poverty policy and its aim to provide assistance to the absolute poor in view of enhancing their quality of life and improving their living conditions.

 

The FCHS project is a joint collaboration of the NEF and the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment, geared towards the objective of providing decent housing to vulnerable families.  Since 2016, some 200 housing units have been provided to eligible SRM beneficiaries.  The beneficiaries  who are the owner of the plot of land, received assistance for the construction of their housing units.  These units are equipped with all the necessary facilities, amenities, safety, security and a harmonious environment where SRM beneficiaries can live an active and healthy life in better conditions.

 

 

According to Statistics Mauritius, the Gross DFomestic Product (GDP) at market prices is forecasted to grow by around 4.0 % in 2019. Based on recent past trends and taking into account policy measures announced in the budget 2018/2019, GVA at basic prices is expected to grow by 3.8 % in 2019, higher than the 3.6 % growth in 2018.

The main assumptions used for the forecast of 2019 are as follows : a) Agriculture, forestry and fishing : to grow by 2.3 % based on a sugar production of around 320, 000 tonnes same as in 2018 and an expected increase of 2.7 % in non-sugarcane agricultural activities. b) Manufacturing : to expand by around 1.7 %, higher than the 0.8 % growth in 2018.

c) Construction : to grow by 8.5 % compared to 9.5 % in 2018, assuming implementation of major public investment projects announced in the last budget.

d) Accommodation and food service activities : to grow by 3.5 % based on tourist arrivals forecasted at around 1, 450, 000 compared to 1, 397, 000 in 2018.

e) Financial and insurance activities : to grow by 5.4 %, same as in 2018.

f) Other sectors : growth rates based on recent past trends.

doivent bien réfléchir sur les réels dangers de Cilida. Pour une fois, Prem Goolaub, généralement très prudent  a laissé entendre directement que Maurice est sous la menace de ce cyclone. Et tous laisse croire que durant le week end, la fête sera gâchée. Sauf que Cilida change de trajectoire pour aller plus vers l’Ouest, Maurice aura à faire face à des conséquences graves dans les jours à venir. Mais prions que l’île soit épargnée à la veille de 2019.

 

 

Sensibiliser les jeunes aux enjeux du développement durable. C’est l’objectif du programme ‘Plan for the Planet’ qui a été lancé a Maurice après l’Australie. Le projet bénéficie du soutien de plusieurs partenaires dont le Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, la Haute Commission australienne et la MCB entre autres.

 

Le Central Electricity Board active son projet de rehaussement du barrage d’eau à Sans-Souci, qui alimente actuellement la station hydro-électrique de Champagne. Après une étude menée par des consultants durant trois ans, un appel d’offres a été lancé en vue de débuter les travaux. Le rehaussement du barrage permettra de retenir un plus grand volume d’eau tout en assurant ainsi une production de trois millions d’unités d’électricité additionnelles. Entre Rs 100M det Rs 200M seront déboursés pour ce projet.

 

It is the third leading cause of death in Mauritius with some 2500 new cases per year in recent years. Cancer affects all genders and all ages and remains a public health challenge in terms of care.

At present, patients are converging on the Victoria a Candos Hospital for their postoperative treatment. In 18 months, the first hospital for cancer patients will open in Solferino. A government project of Rs 1.5 billion, which meets international standards with a resolutely modern service.

 

 

An additional financial support of Rs 257 per ton of sugarcane will be provided to planters producing up to 60 tonnes of sugar for the 2018 Crop.

The small planters benefitting from this additional financial support will therefore receive, in aggregate, a revenue of Rs 1 500 per ton of sugarcane as compared to Rs 1 243 previously.  This is equivalent to Rs 19 200 per ton of sugar from all revenue sources, which comprise remuneration from bagasse and molasses, waiving of CESS contribution and insurance premium, and other support measures.

The financial support represents a total additional revenue of Rs 3 287 per ton of sugar over and above the revenue of Rs 15 913 agreed in September this year.  Some Rs 165 million have been earmarked by Government for the implementation of this measure, and finance will be available from different funds. Government will continue to explore new markets for sugar, in particular special sugars, with remunerative prices.  After protracted negotiations with the Chinese authorities under the Mauritius China Free Trade Agreement, Mauritius has managed to obtain a tariff rate quota of 50 000 tons of special sugars.

 

Les partis de l’opposition disent qu’ils sont d’accord avec le, projet de loi sur la Declarations of Assets Bill, projet de loi qui nécessite une simple majorité. Par contre, ils s’élèvent que c’est l’ICAC qui s’en chargera de conserver toutes les données. Pour l’opposition, l’ICAC n’est pas une institution sérieuse et s’est décrédibilisée au fil des ans.
