The Consumer Protection (Scrap Metal) Regulations 2019 will be amended in order to exceptionally allow the exportation of scrap copper which has been legally traded and acquired. Scrap copper cables are normally processed into ingots or finished products before exportation. However, a small quantity of these scrap copper cables cannot be processed locally due to shortage of labour, expertise and equipment. They remain an eyesore and constitute a loss of revenue for the scrap metal dealers and exporters.
