Sugar Price for crop 2020

Upon a request made by the Sugar Insurance Fund Board, the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority has determined the sugar price for insurance purpose for the two categories for Crop 2020 as follows – Growing Side = Rs12,780/tonne of sugar @ 98.5% Polarisation Milling Side = Rs12,000/tonne of sugar @ 98.5% Polarisation.

Three new government appointees

Mr Sunael Singh Purgus is appointed as part-time Chairperson of the Board of the Fashion and Design Institute; Mr Dyaneshwar Ramdhony as part-time Chairperson of the Board of Film Classification, and Mr Rishiraj Kanhye as part-time Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund.

Prime Minister encourages local production of food-crops

The Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has on Thursday urged the population to work for agricultural self-sufficiency by  encouraging the local production of food-crops via backyard gardening and support sustainable agricultural development through various schemes that have been initiated  by the government.

Speaking at a workshop on agricultural entrepreneurship, Mr Jugnauth underlined that Mauritius still remains vulnerable to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.  “Hence, self-sufficiencyis a necessity to generate an increase in local production”, he added.

Mauritius renews its offer to the US for a long-term arrangement on Diego Garcia

 Prime Minister Pravind  Jugnauth has said that the Government has renewed its offer to enter into a long-term arrangement with the United States to ensure the continued operation of the defence facility in Diego Garcia.

In a statement to the House, Mr Jugnauth pointed out that “such an arrangement would be consistent with the common vision and shared principles of Mauritius and the United States in respect of the rule of law and the United States’ historical support for decolonization.”
