A total of 59 cases at preliminary investigation stage have been discontinued by the board of the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) and 11 cases at further investigation stage have been discontinued following the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice for the period 2002 to 2013.
Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth told Parliament on 24 November 2020 that the power and decision to discontinue an investigation, Prime Minister Jugnauth said that it is vested in the Commission itself as stated under Section 46 (3) of the Prevention of Corruption Act: “Upon receipt of a report under subsection 1 (b) or 2, the Commission shall (a) proceed with further investigation or (b) discontinue the investigation”.
Moreover, he indicated that from 2011 and 2014, no person has been questioned under warning regarding the purchase of properties at Angus Road. He also indicated that the contract of the current Director General of the ICAC has not been expired.
