Mauritius will on Tuesday 26 January 2021 start the Covid-19 vaccination campaign by vaccinating its front-liners, namely health care workers and airport employees who work in close contact with passengers, after receiving a donation of 100,000 doses of Covidshield vaccine Friday from India.
All staff of the five regional hospitals in the island will be vaccinated as from next week.
Mauritius has received a donation of 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine donated by India that will be used to vaccinate a first group of 50,000 front-liners. Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth was at the airport to receive the vaccines that came on board an Air Mauritius flight from India. He said that the vaccination campaign that will begin shortly will allow a review of the conditions of entry of passengers in the island-nation and the tourism sector to restart.
“The objective is to vaccinate more than 60% of the population in order to achieve collective immunity in the country”, he indicated.
Meanwhile, a National Deployment and Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 Vaccines has been set up in Mauritius. The Plan highlights the regulatory preparedness, the planning and coordination of the introduction of the vaccine, its supply chain management, service delivery and healthcare waste management and includes human resources management and training.
At its weekly meeting Friday, the Cabinet took note of the alarming situation of the COVID-19 pandemic prevailing across the world and the spread of the new variants of the virus.
It said in a communiqué that with regard to Mauritius, no local case has been recorded since 26 November 2020. As at 22 January 2021, 556 cases of COVID-19 had been registered. There were currently 22 active imported cases of COVID-19 in Mauritius.

Les Seychelles ont commencé à déployer leur programme de vaccination le 10 janvier avec le vaccin Sinopharm, administrant les premières doses aux dirigeants et aux travailleurs essentiels avec un déploiement au grand public prévu pour la semaine prochaine. (SNA)
(Seychelles News Agency) – La plupart des travailleurs médicaux et des services essentiels de première ligne aux Seychelles ont reçu le vaccin COVID-19 et les efforts vont désormais se déplacer vers les employés du tourisme, a déclaré un haut responsable.
Deux nouveaux centres de vaccination ont ouvert mardi sur l’île principale de Mahé pour permettre aux gens de l’industrie du tourisme de se faire vacciner. La semaine prochaine, la campagne de vaccination sera ouverte à la population générale.
