It is a deficiency in folic acid and iron that affects mostly pregnant women. Young teenagers also have this deficiency in red blood cells. The government’s decision to encourage the production of wheat flour with folic acid and iron, announced in the budget on Monday, will help reduce the high number of cases of anemia.

BOM reserves on the rise
Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has said that thanks to the measures taken by the government, the Bank of Mauritius’ reserves have almost doubled from Rs 124 billion to Rs 241 billion. According to him, this is an unprecedented level in the country’s history.
He also clarified the management of public debt. Mr Jugnauth added that new measures would be taken to increase the reserves of the Bank of Mauritius. Reserve surpluses of the Bank of Mauritius are used to repay high-rate loans, he said.
